How's this for hypocritical? Just a few minutes after I
got done talking about hip-hop's power to serve as an outlet for artistic pain I'm posting
Trey Songz' club-manufactured new single "
Bottoms Up", but the
Nicki Minaj guest verse is so insane, even for Nicki, that I couldn't let it go without commenting.
First let's dispense with the formalities. It's basically "Say Ahh", which apparently every casino and club in Vegas was legally mandated to play every ten minutes the last time I was there by the way, but slightly different. That's really all you need to know.
And now onto Nicki. I've got to hand it to her, she knows how to keep people talking. Nicki's been delivering her "crazy" style in exactly the same way so often it's become ironically boring, but here she drops what can only be described as a Minaj on meth flow. Here's my best attempt to describe her flow as it unfolds: Typical Minaj <<< repeats the same word nine times <<< begs Songz for alcohol in creepy voice <<< threatens to beat bitches with a Louisville slugger <<< shifts into soft, cute voice <<< randomly shouts out babies in Haiti, maybe just because it rhymes <<< sings off key, shouts out Anna Nicole Smith <<< typical Minaj.
It's like a hip-hop car accident - I shouldn't, but I can't help but stare and listen over and over again. Sorry, you're just going to have to listen too.
