“Toy Story 3” Is an Instant Classic (Movie Review)

A great philosopher once said, “The only thing constant in life is change.” He clearly never saw a Pixar movie.

Since the production of the first animated film in 1908, there has never been a more consistent production company than Pixar. With 11 films under their belt, the company has put out nothing but gold since 1995. With that in mind, I proclaim the aforementioned philosopher a liar. It seems to me there are 2 things in life that are constant: change and Pixar putting out fucking awesome movies.

I realize this is probably the only “Toy Story 3” review on the web that includes the word “fucking” but, hey, this is a Hip Hop website. At Refined Hype, we keep it 100 and this movie is, as previously stated, fucking awesome. In the words of Hova, “I call a spade a spade. It just is what it is.”



I know there are a few of you sitting at home, reading this, wondering why the hell a children’s movie is being reviewed on a site that just last week featured at least 5 songs about sex and drugs. It’s because, whether or not you know it, you’re in Pixar’s demographic. Everyone is. That’s why “Up” got a Best Picture nomination at the Oscar’s last year and that’s why “Toy Story 3” will receive the same recognition this year when award season comes around. Pixar makes movies to be enjoyed by everyone and, most of the time, they succeed. Don’t front like you’re too old for cartoons. Deep down inside, you want to see this movie. Now, let’s get on to the review.

“Toy Story 3” is the best film of 2010. I know it’s certainly a bit early to be making that assumption – especially with “Inception” around the corner – but it’s hard for me to imagine a movie that parallels this kind of quality arriving at any time in the near future. “Toy Story 3” has it all; an incredible cast of voice actors, an inspired storyline, stellar animation, and a powerful message. I don’t want to spoil anything so I’ll avoid talking about the plot. Let’s just say that there’s a reason this is the first movie in years to receive a 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Toy Story 3” can make you laugh. It can make you cry. Hell, it “will” make you laugh. It “will” make you cry. Unless you’re soulless or simply don’t pay attention, there’s no reason this movie shouldn’t affect you emotionally. Just like they did in last years “Up”, Pixar wants to tug at your emotions and, if you don’t fight them, I promise they’ll get you. If you don't get teary eyed towards the end of the film, you must not have been paying attention.

Basically, what I’m trying to get at here is that this isn’t a movie that you should want to see – this is a movie you need to see. Very rarely does a movie come out that simultaneously entertains and provokes thought in the way that “Toy Story 3” does. For the past hour or so, I’ve been going through the movie in my head, trying to find one negative aspect to share with you, but have failed to do so. The movie is perfect. It contains a perfect amount of action, adventure, and comedy. “Toy Story 3” receives my first four-star rating. Go see it immediately, i.e., stay home from work, skip school, quit masturbating to Internet porn. I promise you won’t regret it.

I also saw Jonah Hex this past weekend. I’d write a review but I’m not so sure I can find the words to describe how awful that movie was. Skip it by any means necessary.
