Throwback Thursday: Aaliyah’s “If Your Girl Only Knew” (Video)

If my girl only knew how much I'm truly in love with Aaliyah she'd probably have me sleeping on the couch, but can you blame me. Not only was she beautiful, but she made some incredible music - incredible music like 1996's "If Your Girl Only Knew". Goddamn she was good.

1) To this day Timbaland and Aaliyah are one of the all-time best singer-producer combos. Too bad Timbo's now doing hot garbage with Katy Perry. Oh how the mighty have fallen, I mean sold out.

2) I feel like we don't talk enough about the fact that Aaliyah and R. Kelly were (allegedly/almost certainly) married...when Aaliyah was 16! Not only is this a huge story in its own right, but it puts Kells later, um, let's say "difficulties" in perspective. How is this not one of the biggest stories in hip-hop history?

3) Only Aaliyah could make giant leather goggles look sexy. It's no "Rock the Boat", but I wouldn't make her take em off.

4) There's no way I can finish this article without mentioning Rahzel's ricockulously (Recockulously? Spelling?) dope cover. Seriously, how is this shit even possible?

5) Of course we all know what happened to Aaliyah. It's been almost ten years since her tragic death, and I'll tell anyone who's willing to listen that had she lived, we'd be talking about the one of the biggest female music acts of the last few decades. She was that good.
