As the homey Ivan pointed out on the mothership, the release of The Roots' new single "Dear God 2.0" marks the second "2.0" in Roots history, following "The Seed 2.0". Considering there was never a "Dear God 1.0" or "The Seed 1.0", it's hard to know what makes either track an updated version...but that's just my ADD talking. Let's get back to the real reason we're here. The most consistent, versatile group in hip-hop history (yeah, I mean it) has struck musical gold yet again with their latest release.
Featuring haunting production, additional help from Jim James and his band Monsters of Folk and some theologically questioning rhymes from the tragically underrated BlackThought, "Dear God 2.0" has me stoked for the release of the Philly crew's latest sure to be masterpiece "How I Got Over" on June 22. As much as I liked "Rising Down", let's hope the entire album isn't all "Dear God 2.0". I could use a new Roots party jam. You know, like this.
