Uh-oh. Things are not looking good for the most (over) hyped female rapper of all-time. Although people can't seem to get enough of talking about
Nicki Minaj, and
looking at her, hip-hop nation apparently isn't particularly interested in hearing Nicki, which wouldn't be a problem if she wasn't ostensibly a musician. First her lead single "
Massive Attack" has absolutely bombed (it's currently number 124
on the charts, ouch), and lord knows her new single "
Your Love" won't help matters. Talk about a parade of bad decisions.
First of all, who decided it was a good idea for Nicki to do a ballad? She's known for her energy, so why slow her down, especially over something as soft as an
Annie Lenox sample? Second, apparently someone didn't read my
Rappers Need to Stop Singing column because she sounds terrible, even with the auto-tune (or because of it). And last but not least, those rhymes are painful. For the record, here's what
a good version of this song sounds like. Nicki's debut album currently has no release date, and I guarantee you that release date's going to stay murky as the label fishes around for a hit.
