Hip-Hop’s Most Unmatched Couples

Posted by Danielle Harling on 08/07/10 | Filed under

Over the years Hip Hop has seen some of the oddest pairings when it comes to relationships. The differences within the relationship can be anything from looks to what they have in the bank. Take a look at some of the couples we think have proved to be the most mismatched in Hip Hop history. See more...

Amber Rose And Kanye West

I don’t think anyone saw this one coming. With all his Yves Saint Laurent and antiques talk we definitely didn’t think Kanye was a sucker for strippers.

Janet Jackson And Jermaine Dupri
INSERT KEYWORDS

Although Jermaine Dupri has done quite well while at So So Def he’s no match, career-wise, with the mega-star that is Janet Jackson. While the relationship between the two musicians ended recently the couple went strong for quite some time to the surprise of many.

Nick Cannon And Mariah Carey
INSERT KEYWORDS

We definitely don’t consider Nick Cannon Hip Hop, but we had to throw this couple on the list. Not only is there a major difference in age, but I’m sure before “America’s Got Talent” Nick’s wallet wasn’t nearly as hefty as Mariah’s.

Lauren London and Lil Wayne
INSERT KEYWORDS

To refer to this couple as Beauty And The Beast would be somewhat mean, right? I’m not even sure if we can technically refer to this duo as a couple but they do have a child together so obviously that’s some kind of a relationship.

Amber Rose is fly as shit though. She's definitely got a unique and fresh style about her. So I don't see why that's so mismatched.

Who didn't listen to Gigolo back in the day? I argue that Nick Cannon can be considered hip-hop. He's more of a rapper, musician, emcee, and entertainer than a lot of guys in hip-hop now. He was a flash in the pan, and no one's gonna try to rank him as a rapper, but he still did hip-hop at one point.

To address the top two points:

SmokinAces - One one hand you've got an admittedly good looking woman with no discernable, inherent talent. On the other hand you have arguably the most talented and creative hip-hop artist of his generation. That's not exactly even to me.

And @XuUP17, although he's definitely a long way off now, I think Nic Cannon is still in the larger echelon of "hip-hop". Come on, we're talking about the star of "Drum Line" here!

For my money, I'm more than a little disappointed by Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz. She's the most talented R&B singer of our generation, and he's a man who's been making the same repetitive beats for ten years. Really Alicia? That's the best you could do?
