I've been a huge Clipse fan since they dropped Hell Hath No Fury, but I've always wondered where they drew the line between their lives and their art. On verse after verse the insisted that they were still slinging massive amount of cocaine, but that couldn't possibly be true, could it? How could two high profile rappers, who rap about selling drugs, actually sell drugs without getting arrested. Especially in the quantities they were talking about. Well...while we still don't know for sure that Pusha T and Malice are slinging themselves, apparently their former manager Anthony Gonzalez was heavy in the game. According to new reports, Gonzalez plead guilty today to charges of drug trafficking and criminal conspiracy and faces up to 15 years in prison.
According to The Virginian-Pilot newspaper, which covered the case locally:
"Gonzalez admitted in court that he began distributing drugs in 2003 and said it accelerated between February 2005 and June 2006, when he was receiving 30 kilograms a month from a supplier known only as J.B. By the time of his arrest, Gonzalez acknowledged, he had distributed more than 1,100 pounds of cocaine, 1,800 pounds of marijuana and several pounds of heroin over the past five years.
In court Tuesday, when U.S. District Judge Jerome B. Friedman asked Gonzalez whether the statement of facts was true, Gonzalez replied, 'Yes, very true.'"
That means that Gonzalez was managing the Clipse at the same time that he was a major drug trafficker, a fact that makes it hard to believe Pusha T and Malice weren't at least vaguely aware of their manager's activities, especially considering that Gonzalez was laundering drug money through his company Soul Providers Management, which was the booking agent for the Clipse.
Still, any such thoughts are pure speculation and officials stress that the Clipse themselves will not be charged with any crimes and have never been linked to any illegal activities.
It's a good thing videos like this are free speech and can't be used as evidence in a court of law (by the way, I forgot how dope this video is):
