Fashawn Ode to Illmatic Mixtape Cover
If you're going to put your handprints over an album as beloved as Nas' classic-of-all-classics "Illmatic" you better be careful; anything less than undeniable dopeness and hip-hop nation will riot. Well west coast fast riser, and RefinedHype exclusive interviewee, Fashawn gambled big by putting out his track-by-track "Illmatic" remake "Ode to Illmatic" and thankfully, it's a gamble he won. I knew Fashawn was an ill emcee, but I was a little worried until I got a chance to listen to "Ode' all the way through and....well...I'll be damned if he didn't pull it off. Huge props to Fashawn. Huge props. Enjoy bumping this all weekend.

Extra moment of appreciation for that cover. Technically sponsored by clothing company Orisue and XXL, who keeps forgetting to protect their direct download links so I just rip em for y'all (thanks XXL), and featuring guest work from Talib Kweli. That's it. Just Kweli.

Download links and mixtape preview are underneath the tracklist:

I dunno bout that mr. top hat. Freddie Gibbs has crazy metaphors and a totally different style. Fashawn is cool, but pretty uncreative both lyrically and with his flow. They don't even sound similar, so why compare the two?

Oops, i typed that whole thing thinking about Donnis instead of Freddie Gibbs. Freddie Gibbs is cool too though, but him and Fashawn are pretty similar. I like them both. Haha

Why am I comparing the two? Let's say @Nathan knows.

I like them both, too. And for Donnis, I haven't heard a bad song of his, so far, but I’m unable to name one Donnis song. There goes that.
