Looks like this is
one bet I'm going to lose. Just a couple days after I declared there was no way that
Dr. Dre's epically delayed follow-up to his now decade old "Chronic 2001" album would ever be released, the good Dr. announced that his third studio album "
Detox" would be released this summer, most likely in June.
"I know my fans are waiting, and the world is waiting, and I'm about to give y'all what you've been waiting for," said Dr. Dre.
While Dre refused to say what finally prompted him to lock down a release date, his declaration likely has something to do with the leak of a photo of him and Jay-Z working in the studio.
Hova himself confirmed both that he had been putting the final touches on a track with Dre, and that the album would be coming soon.
"Just as I'm the king of New York, Dr. Dre has undoubtedly been the king of the west coast for years, so it's only right that we get together for what I guarantee will be the biggest hip-hop album we've heard in years - at least until I release something," Jay said with a laugh.
While a final tracklist is still in the works, Dre did confirm that in addition to Jay-Z, Eminem, 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Drake, Game, Snoop Dogg, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber would all be making guest appearances.
"This is the last album I'll ever do, so I wanted to take my time and do it right," said Dre. "I won't lie, I'm still at the top of my game. If you like that Dr. Pepper commercial, you're going to motherfucking love this album."
Update: April Fools suckas! I'm just fucking with you. This album's still never coming out, and while that photo of Dre and Jay in the studio might be real, it's becoming increasingly likely that it's a hoax, a Photoshop creation.
