Regular readers know I've been supporting
Dominique LaRue ever since her single "
Fall '96" caught my eardrums way back in November. Well, it's a new year and not surprisingly LaRue is back with yet another quality project, this time coming in the form of her new freEP "
HerStory". Produced entirely by
Idasa Tariq, who also contributes verse, "HerStory" is the record of a woman who doesn't need to become a vessel for male fantasies in order to make good music. Plus it sounds fresh.
Just like simply being a white no longer merits a lot of attention we might someday get to the point where female rappers are just rappers, but we're not there yet. The more Dominique LaRues hip-hop has, the sooner that day will come. Not to get all Obama on you, but I believe a change is going to come, and you should too.
