Cookin Soul Flips Quincy, Jay and Wayne Into a Hot “Summer in Brooklyn” (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 07/07/10 | Filed under Top Stories, Downloads, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Remixes, Cookin Soul

Well this is ill. Having already had their way with Drake's breakthrough debut ("Thank Us Later") production team Cookin' Soul has turned their sites to their immediate surroundings and crafted one of the better flips you're ever going to hear. By using Quincy Jones' classic "Summer in the City", also known as the Pharcyde's "Passin' Me By", and then adding in Jay and Wayne's verses from the "American Gangster" track "Hello Brooklyn", they've cooked up "Summer in Brooklyn", and the result is hotter than Bedstuy in July. (Bonus points if you know where that reference is from.)

"Hello Brooklyn" was disappointing, but this right here? This I could play all day. Cookin' Soul's quickly becoming my go to producers for ill flips, remixes and mash-ups. I smell a Production Breakdown coming....

Download link is below the ill video.

This version is MUCH better than the original...and I thought the original was one of the better songs on that album

Cookin Soul! Been following them for a while, they stay puttin' in work. This is exactly what I expect from them. Shit's type chilled with Wayne sounding dope to a greater degree compared to the original. It's definitely a different listen, but I believe Original still has it's fair share of merits. OG kinda goes hard in trunk. Anyways, this is beyond good.

Another sick remix of theirs worthy of being mentioned here is a blend of Big L's MVP over instrumental from Common's A Penny For My Thoughts. Now I understand the OG version of "MVP" is an unparalleled classic but I like the Cookin Soul version a bit more. If you haven't heard either of the jawns yet, stop the narcolepsy and cop it with the quickness right here!

There's no question that this is better than the album version - one of Cookin Soul's best efforts in my opinion. Now this is that summer music.
