When I dropped XV’s latest cut “Warmup” earlier this morning I promised I’d have his “30 Minute Layover” mixtape up later today, and sure enough, I kept my promise (RefinedHype is for the babies!). Consisting entirely of freestyles over industry beats, “30 Minute Layover” is designed to keep eager fans from hyperventilating before his upcoming “Vizzy Zone” project drops in the next couple months. Ok, breathe deep people, and enjoy some new XV. TXVIF. Listen and download…
I know, I know. It’s Friday, and if counting the minutes until you get to leave work wasn’t bad enough, now you have to count the minutes until XV’s new freestyle mixtape “30 Minute Layover” drops. Well I’m here to help you on both fronts. As opposed to his last leak “Lift the Game”, where XV was not in a good mood, on “Warmup” he’s back to his usual punchline heavy flow, dropping lines like “I can go every quarter, I don’t promise, I swear it / while all you need subs like Jared.” Yeah, it’s like that. Ok, I’m going to say this slowly, and I want you to control yourself. The net’s favorite unsigned hype XV is coming out with a new mixtape, “30 Minute Layover” this Friday, and today we got broken off with the first leak “Lift the Game”, a cut featuring Vizzy going in hard over the beat from Lil Wayne’s “Drop the World”. To summarize, XV is basically pissed off that he’s being overlooked by the majors just because he’s from Kansas, and he’s decided to take out his frustrations on the mix. Listen and download…
And the XV hits just don’t stop. Months after his acclaimed “Everyboyd’s Nobody” mixtape ended up on everyone’s Best of the Year lists (everyone I respect anyway), we’re treated to a remix of Vizzy’s “Me, You”, this time around with two of the west coast’s dopest new emcees, Freddie Gibbs (who kind of sounds like Bun B here) and Shawn Chrystopher. We don’t like to brag, but if Vegas took odds on which rappers are set to make it big, we’d be swimming in gold like Scrooge McDuck. With that in mind, we wanted to pause for a moment to reflect on the year that was, and look forward to the year that will be. After polling each of our staff members individually and tabulating the results, we’ve come up with a quick breakdown of the three artists that broke through the biggest in 2009, and two more that are set to blow up bigger than Oprah’s bank account in 2010. Considering the enormous quantity of dope music XV’s been putting out lately we can only assume that the major labels are either asleep or completely comprised of idiots (actually it’s a little bit of both), but their loss is our gain as XV continues his onslaught of new music. This time around we’re being treated to “Now Jump”, a slow paced track of his upcoming “Look What I Can Do” with a quasi-80s rock vibe, enhanced by some serious rhymes by Vizzy complete with Jimmy Superfly Snooker references. XV says “Now Jump” is indicative of his current mindset, and if that’s true than he’s not a angry rapper determined to show the world what he can do. See more to listen and download…
You know what was terrible? “50 First Dates”, the 2004 flick starring Adam Sandler and a possibly retarded Drew Barrymore. You know what’s dope? “50 First Dates”, the new track from everyone’s favorite most known/unknown rapper XV and produced by his frequent production partner Seven. A lyrical exploration of XV’s struggles to find a woman worthy of going on a second date with (hint ladies, don’t say you like Family Guy more than South Park), there’s no doubt in my mind that XV’s loyal legion of fans will eat this one up like Fat Joe in front of a taco plate. If I had to pick two artists that were destined to blow everyone’s favorite unsigned hype XV and the future of Roc Nation J. Cole would be at the top of my list, so when the two join forces? Forget it. Determined to show that his work behind the boards is just as dope as his mic skills, XV (a.k.a. Vizzy) has remixed J. Cole’s “Lights, Please”, giving the track a more soulful feel that - for my money - fits the mood of J. Cole’s lyrics much better than the original. See more to listen and download…
I’ve got this dream where a record label exec sits me down and says, “Nathan, you’ve got your finger on the pulse of hip-hop. I’m looking to sign a new artist. Who would you recommend?” In that dream I look at the exec and, without hesitation, say “XV”. That was a very long way of saying that I’ve learned that anything I post from XV gets eaten up faster than a taco plate in front of Fat Joe, so you know I had to offer up the latest VX cut “Nevermind”, a bluesy track produced by his constant production partner Seven. Remember the end of Indiana Jones and the “Raiders of the Lost Ark”, when the camera pans out across a giant warehouse filled with identical boxes and you realize that while the Ark is in there somewhere, it will likely never be found? Well that’s the cinematic equivalent of XV’s “The Kid With the Green Backpack”, a collaborative effort from XV and producer Seven that may never see the light of day. Regardless of its particular fate, XV’s gone ahead a released a leak off the project featuring Jupiter One titled “Losing the Signal”. See more to listen and download…
