My City: Jason James (Web) on Canada’s Rap Scene, NYC & Racist Mullets

Posted by Nathan S. on 07/15/10 | Filed under Features, My City, Web, Jason James

Jason James (a.k.a. Web, a.k.a. one of God's Favorites, a.k.a. the man behind Open Bar Season) is not your typical rapper, and it's no surprise that he's had far from a typical life. Although he called Vancouver, Canada home, the international man of rap mystery has spent some serious time in Toronto, NYC, L.A. and all points in between. See more...

Web Knows It’s All “In My Head” (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 05/24/10 | Filed under Downloads, Freestyles, Web, Open Bar Season

This week finds Web getting deeply personal, something he says he always struggles with because, "it's hard to have and objective opinion of something when you're looking at it from the inside out rather than the outside in." Somewhat surprisingly done over Jagged Edge's "Tip Of My Tongue" beat, "In My Head" is first and foremost a lyrical rider, though I wouldn't sleep on Web's flow and delivery.
I think we can all relate to this one. It's bigger than hip-hop. Listen and download...

Web Reflects on Life & Death on “Pray” (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 05/17/10 | Filed under Downloads, Freestyles, Web, Open Bar Season

This week finds Web reflecting on the role of religion in our lives after the tragic passing of a dear friend on his deeply reflective track "Pray". Done over the Cunnilynguists' "K.K.K.Y." beat, in typical Web fashion, "Pray" asks the questions that need to be asked, even if most are too afraid to. In his words, "I'm letting this one go in tribute to my brother, fellow artist and peer, Rasul. RIP Brother." Amen. Listen and download...

Web & e.d.g.e. Know to “Hustle or Starve” on New Open Bar Season Freestyle (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 05/10/10 | Filed under Downloads, Freestyles, Web, Open Bar Season

RefinedHype is jumping aboard Web's Open Bar Season freestyle series and joining KevinNottingham.com as an official sponsor of the man's often diabolical, sometimes introspective, always dope rhyme skills. This week Web's slapping us upside the dome with "Hustle or Starve", a track that find him reuniting with his longtime partner in rhyme e.d.g.e. to expound on their previous professions; moving weight. As Web says, " Nothing really else to say about it. Drugs are bad." Indeed. Listen and download...

Pop quiz: what's the most powerful cosign that an artist can ever hope to get? I know, I know – the obvious answer would be, of course, “RefinedHype” but let's try and think a bit bigger. How about having the backing of none other than the man upstairs? Web Takes Fans Behind the Scenes of “Waiting to Exhale” Recording Session

Posted by Richard on 04/14/10 | Filed under Video, Web

After taking December '09 off to clear his head, up-and-coming rapper Web hopped right back into the studio in January 2010; "Waiting to Exhale" was the first track to result. This new video chronicles a recording session that was frustrating (parents, cover your children's ears) but ultimately rewarding. And then frustrating again. In any case, it all turned out dope-ly in the end. Watch...

Web Has Some “Fun With Chemicals” (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 01/26/10 | Filed under Downloads, Web

Having already announced the "Return of the Bad Guy" and delivered the eloquently stated "F*ck You", in week four of his Open Bar Season series Web is now urging all the children out there to go grab some battery acid and have at it. That's right, it's "Fun With Chemicals"! (The exclamation points mine, not his.) As if you needed more proof that Web is a lyrically gifted, and mentally disturbed man, here it is. Listen and download...

Web Has Two Words for the World, “F*ck You” (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 01/12/10 | Filed under Downloads, Web

After announcing the "Return of the Bad Guy" in the inaugural edition of the Open Bars Season series, Web is back for week two of his 52 week series, and he's none too pleased. Do I really have to do more to describe this track than simply say it's titled "F*ck You"? Yep, that pretty much sums it up right there. If you're having a bad day, you might not want to listen to this one. Listen & download...
