Big Boi and Andre 3k's storytellin skills are better than your favorite rapper's. So when I saw that former Slim Shady representer Bobby Creekwater had taken it upon himself to take the next step in the storytellin journey I was immediately suspicious. Does his track deserve to stand next to such rap idols? I figured the only way to truly answer that question was to provide context, so behold, every portion of "Da Art of Storytellin" series. Now that Wale's done with his bid for mainstream radio play (a.k.a. the controversial "Pretty Girls" video) the biggest rap star in D.C. history is moving onto visuals for what many, including me, consider one of the best tracks off his "Attention Deficit" album, "Diary". You might want to get some Keenex our ladies, this one might just make you cry. See more...
Cooli-who? While no one under the age of fifteen has any idea who Coolio is anymore, us '80s babies remember that the insanely braided rapper was a legitimate force back in the day, and it was his smash single "Gangsta's Paradise" that finally earned the man some respect...respect that he's spent the last fifteen years destroying, but still. Come, won't you join me one last time in "Gangsta's Paradise"? See more...
We've been hearing the occasional leak from Lupe Fiasco's upcoming "Lasers" album for weeks, but until now we haven't seen any accompanying visuals...until now. Last night El Senor de Fiasco released a treat for your eyeballs to go along with the audio for the album's lead single "I'm Beamin". If this was an R. Kelly video I'd be concerned about the preponderance of children in it, but as is I'm really digging the hip-hop meets third grade school play style. See more...
We da best! We takin’ over! And now All I do is Win. DJ Khaled is the DJ everyone loves to hate, the guy who knowingly pokes fun at himself yet manages to stay relevant in the music industry. He’s beaten out a lot his counterparts and transitioned into mainstream brand. His albums have gone platinum, and he doesn’t rap and barely produces on them. This week The Video Breakdown dissects the hit of 2007 “We Takin’ Over” featuring Akon, Rick Ross, TI, Fat Joe, Birdman, and Weezy. See more...
I'll be honest with you. I was undecided about posting B.o.B.'s video for his dope "Bet I Bust" track featuring T.I. and Playboy Tre, not because it's bad but because it's, well, ok. Sure it's got a couple cool graphical elements, but for the most part it's simply B.o.B. and company performing in front of a white screen with average back-up dancers behind them. But then I realized a couple things. See more...
Once I realized Lupe Fiasco has so far been left out of our classic verse series I set out to immediately remedy that shameful oversight, but the track I chose probably isn't on most casual fans' radars. Somewhat buries on his classic "The Cool" album is "Put You On Game", a work of staggering depth, scope and dopeness. See more...
Unless he drops a video featuring a completely naked Rosa Acosta later today I promise this will be the last Game post for a minute, but after the mixtape and the new single, I figured why not the video? So without further ado I give you "don't call me the" Game's visual accompaniment to his Cool & Dre single "Shake". Enjoy, or not. Either way.
As everyone who already heard T.I.'s fresh out of jail track "I'm Back", which at this point I think is everyone, the King is indeed back, and he's not pleased with the wack Southern rappers who have been getting their 15 minutes of fame during his absence (I'll let you name names). Clifford's path of vengeance continues today with the en fuego visuals to "I'm Back", and they're just as explosive as the track itself.
As Americans we have the luck of not having to deal with much strife and instability. We do not need to worry about walking into a coffee shop only to have it explode a few seconds after ordering.
MIA (remember the pregnant chick performing "Swagger Like Us"? Yeah…that’s her) released a new video to her new single, “Born Free”. Judging by the various comments, the song was seen as controlled noise; I beg to differ. See more...
