New school stoner god Kid Cudi has finally released some imagery behind his cult-classic hit “Pursuit of Happiness” and he’s brought along Drake for some substance-abuse related fun. This is definitely one video you’re going to have to watch a couple times to truly appreciate. See more…
Today Billboard released their list of the decade’s biggest one-hit wonders, naming Daniel Powter and his adult contemporary song “Bad Day” as the 2000s biggest one-and-done. It’s not worth my time arguing about Daniel Powter, whose name I frankly didn’t even know, though I will take some time to break down the decade’s top hip-hop flashes in the pan. From Huey to J-Kwon and beyond, here are rap’s best “where are they know?” cases. See more…
Tiger Woods is good at a lot of things: winning golf tournaments, selling products, crashing his car into a tree after his wife attacked him with a golf club for cheating on her, but one thing he’s not so good at are r&b slow jams…until now. Lord knows the man could use a good “baby, I’m so sorry” track right now, and luckily it’s been delivered in the form of a “Tiger Woods Voicemail Slow Jam”, the latest in a long and proud lineage of hilarious remixes. Congratulations T-Pain. If your goal was to release the biggest cock tease video in hip-hop history you’ve succeeded with “Take Your Shirt Off”, a video which, you guessed it, features not a single girl with her shirt off, though there is one shirtless fat dude who jumps around a lot. So we’ve got that going for us.
Every week our resident video expert Jose Ho-Guanipa, a California based video director and writer, will give you the inside look at a classic hip-hop flick. This week he examined Ice Cube’s seminal west coast video for “It Was a Good Day”, a cinematic video directed by F. Gary Gray that has become an iconic representation of L.A.‘s South Central neighborhood in the early ‘90s. See more…
I don’t think you truly appreciate how amazing Aaliyah was. I really don’t think you do. Not only was she beautiful and charismatic - and believe me she was - Aaliyah pushed the boundaries of r&b harder than almost anyone while still maintaining a sense of the classics. Luckily producer Belief is equally determined to make sure we give Aaliyah here due as he’s remixing some of her biggest hits is part of his ongoing and aptly named Aaliyah remix project. Today we have two of the first releases in t series, “We Need a Resolution” and “Try Again”, complete with downloads and video. See more to watch and download…
If you’re not an ‘80s baby like me it’s hard to describe how huge Starter jackets were. Let me put it this way: there were two types of kids growing up. Kids with Starter jackets and those without. So when Chicago rapper Add-2 decided to weave their tale of growing up poor with repeated “Starter Jacket” references, it took me back to a time when your greatest achievement in life was obtaining a Raiders jacket. New York native Beyond Belief is not-so-quietly taking the hip-hop world by storm, and he’s now got the visual evidence to prove it. Beyond’s brand new video for “U Dont’ Know Me” is a personal look at the rapper that many may not know now, but everyone will very soon. See more…
Every generation has its classics, but for us 80s babies it doesn’t get much better than Nas, Biggie, Pac and some old school Tribe Called Quest. Fortunately DJ Dbefekt is dedicated to keeping the classic alive, and he’s bringing on two of Boston’s brightest emcees Termanology and Reks for his new “Raised on Classics” video, a flick that appropriately pays homage to all the artists who’ve laid the groundwork for this culture. Hugs, one of the most dangerous practices known to man. After all, every time you hug your genitalia’s pretty much lined up with the other person’s. I mean come on, your practically f**king. Luckily one Christian rap group has set out to eliminate this sinful practice, offering an appropriate alternative called the “Christian Side Hug”. Is this the worst hip-hop song of all time? I don’t know, it’s giving Joey Lawrence a run for his money. See more…
