First off, when you've got Chuck Inglish of The Cool Kids crafting a very Cool Kids-esque beat, as well as throwing down a hook, you're going to have a final product that sounds like a Cool Kids track. So yes, while "Snow Blowers" is technically a Boldy James cut featuring Inglish and Count of the L.E.P. Bogus Boys, it comes off as a Cool Kids track featuring James and Count. Listen and download...
Let's just talk about how smooth this new The Cool Kids and Bun B "Gas Station" is for a second. It's "smooth like a hot comb on nappy ass hair." It's about as smooth as drinking a "Mango-a-go-go" smoothie from Jamba Juice while swinging in a hammock. Okay, now that that's out the way let's get back to the song. Listen and download...
The Cool Kids and Mayer Hawthorne are the latest artists to try their luck at creating the unofficial summer anthem with their latest release titled "Swimsuits." Hawthorne of course provides the chorus for this not so infectious summer song while The Cool Kids' Sir Michael Rocks and Chuck Inglish rap about "spicy mamacita's," losing hotel keys, and chilling in the Bahamas. Although they both put in work on both sides of the equation, Chuck Inglish was always considered the production half of the Cook Kids and Mikey Rocks was considered the rhyme half. That's why I was intrigued to hear what Mikey, or as he now prefers to be called Sir Michael Rocks, could so on the solo tip. Listen and download...
After years of legal wrangling with their label, Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks are finally gearing up to drop their long-awaited "When Fish Ride Bicycles" and their first official offering is the crunching "Bundle Up". Featuring another trademark retro, stripped-down beat from Inglish, this is definitely one of those love it or hate it tracks. But I guarantee those loving it will be cranking the volume way up. As those with enough good sense to listen to our last Hypemen podcast already know, Freddie Gibbs has a crew in the works featuring The Cool Kids, Bun B and Chip Tha Ripper, collectively knows as Pulled Over by the Cops, and today we got hit with the crew's first offering, the appropriately titled "Authority". Let's see here, it's been nine months since Lupe dropped his last single "I'm Beamin'", so yeah, the remix should be coming in five, four, three...oh, there it is. That's right, the slowest working man in hip-hop finally got his ish together and dropped the long awaited All City Chess Club remix featuring Asher Roth, a new verse from the Lupester, Charles Hamilton, both Cool Kids, Blu, Diggy Simmons (why?), Dosage and B.o.B. Travis Barker's upcoming album, cleverly titled "Give the Drummer Some", sounds pretty dope so far. If you haven't heard anything from the project so far new leak "Jump Down" is as good of a place to start as any. The beat, which Barker produced, has that ill live drum feel without going overboard, and while I've found The Cool Kids slow, retro rhyme style to be a little tiresome lately, they once again sound fresh on "Jump Down".
