Rapper signs to a major label. Rapper is far from your usual rapper, major label has no idea what to do with him, deal falls apart. Rapper decides to go back to making music independently and builds a loyal fanbase who love his original style. Rapper then re-signs with a major label on his terms and becomes an established star. What's that? Dost mine ears deceive me? Did Royce just shout out Skyzoo? Holy shit balls, he did: "Leavin, my rivals, underground like Skyzoo." Wow. I don't know why I'm so surprised, there's no reason Royce wouldn't be listening to Skyzoo, and it's not like he said anything groundbreaking (yep, Skyzoo's underground all right), but still....
Whether it was "The Illest". unquestionably the best BET Cypher or anything else they even considered rhyming on, in many ways 2011 was the Year of Slaughterhouse. No one's bringing back that classic hip-hop "just rhyming as dopely as possible' feel than Budden, Crooked, Royce and Ortiz. The best rapper is the one who raps the best. Imagine that. If they know him at all, a lot of folks know Mistah FAB as a hyphy one-hit wonder. But while he's the "Yellow Bus" rider, FAB is also a legitimately skilled emcee that I've been trying to get hip-hop heads to give some respect to for a minute now. If that ridiculously dope Rap Fix freestyle somehow didn't do the job, maybe new cut 'In My City" will. Listen and download....
Is there a safer bet in hip-hop right now than Slaughterhouse? That's a rhetorical question. No, there's not. There's exactly a 0.0% chance they're dropping something wack, and the same goes for Yelawolf. As for T.I.? Maybe not as dependable, but when he's on, he's fucking on. In other words, there was never any doubt that Yela's "Hard White (Remix)" would sound dope. Listen and download...
I don't think there was really any debate before, but after their BET Cypher all of RefinedHype Nation, and Hip-Hop Nation at large, has unanimously agreed that Slaughterhouse is the best crew in the game. Frankly, it's not even close. Not even a little bit. Right now there's Slaughter, and then there's everyone else.
After we all instantly and unanimously agreed that the Shady Records BET Cypher put every other cypher in a choke hold and put it to sleep (no offense Tity Boi) we finally and inevitably have the high quality audio. I know I put the video right above, but I recommend listening to this at least the first time around on audio only. You'll catch a lot of lines on headphones only mode that you miss on the visuals.
Slow day for new music, so I thought I'd go back to a track that dropped earlier but I didn't have time to post. If you haven't listened to Royce da 5'9's new single, "On the Boulevard", you need to. Like now. In some ways it might just be the best song he's ever done. See more...
I was a little hesitant to post this because between the Bad Meets Evil, and the Slaughterhouse, and the Bad Meets Evil featuring Slaughterhouse I thought RefinedHype Nation might have had their fill of Royce da 5'9", but his new single 'Second Place" is just too good for me to leave out.
