It was his ghostwriting for Kanye's breakout single "Jesus Walks" that set him into motion...having gotten offers from both G.O.O.D. Music and Allido, Fest chose the latter, picking up distribution from J Records (where he notably rebuffed Busta Rhymes' critiques of how Mr. Davis handles his hip-hop acts). Setting a mission to bring back the true essence of hip-hop, we got his debut album "Blue Collar" in '06. See more...
Over the last 24 hours a boatload of new hip-hip visuals have dropped, so I thought we'd start off today by playing a little catch up with another Video Wrap. Today we proudly feature brand spanking new visuals from The_Dream, Sean Price, Rhymefest, Consequence and more...
A bunch of dope new videos dropped today, but unfortunately I don't have time to give each of them the individual treatment they deserve. So instead, I thought I'd wrap them all into one package of visual goodness for y'all. Behold, new videos from Alicia Keys, Rhymefest and Fashawn. Grab some popcorn and plan on spending some time. After a few leaks, Chicago's not so hidden secret Rhymefest has finally let loose of his new mixtape "Dangerous 5:18", which is built to serve as a warm-up to his revolutionarily minded upcoming album El Che (set to drop May 18). Featuring appearances by Large Professor, Little Brother, Rahzel, Kid Carpi, Just Blaze, Elzi of Slum Village and many more, in addition to no shortage of the kind of aggressively intelligent rhymes we've come to expect from Fest. Not every track needs further explanation (I'm looking at you "We Get High"), but that's definitely not the case with Rhymefest's new track "Letter". I'll let the man himself explain: "This song was recorded for the "El Che" album while I was still on Allido Records with live vocals from John Mayer." If the fans really dig the record, I will release a follow-up statement addressing the Wale situation (how he came about recording his version of "Letter") in the immediate future." Some tracks sound so damn good they need no introduction, but then I'd be out of a job, so here we go. While in Chicago, New York based Skyzoo hit the SoundScape studio and happened to run into Windy City native Rhymefest. The two hit it off and decided to knock out "Crack the Code", a banging ode to their respective cities that uses a Beatnik & K-Salaam beat and will appear on RubyHornet and DJ RTC's "Closed Sessions Vol. 1" mixtape, set to drop on March 2. Perhaps best known as the co-writer of Kanye's Grammy award-winning "Jesus Walks", the fiercely creative Rhymefest has struggled to find solo success, and now his upcoming "El Che" album has been pushed back indefinitely. Luckily all is not lost - in fact, Fest has now given DJ RTC the green light to leak two of the album's highlights, "Say Wassup" ft. Little Brother and "How High" ft. Phonte. Listen and download...
