Unless you're walking around with a space heater in your pants - which, by the way, we do not recommend - you've noticed that the days have gotten much colder, darker and short. Not exactly the kind of thing that makes you want to hit the streets in search of the best the city has to offer.
That's why Hype NY will be taking a cue from mother nature and going into hibernation for the winter. So while you're warm inside your apartment watching the snow fall, we'll be locked in our offices, working to bring back Hype NY even bigger and stronger in the spring.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the our launch such an overwhelming success. Happy holidays, happy New Year and we'll see you soon.
Over the weekend, Stage 37 along with the folks of Jose Cuervo hosted ‘Subterraneo’ [the Spanish word meaning ‘underground’], a one-of-a-kind travelling event series modeled after Mexico’s Dia de los Muertos [Day of the Dead] celebration, came to New York City for one night only to educate spirits aficionados and nightlife experts on Jose Cuervo's rich heritage. I was too young to appreciate Soul Train back in the day -- though I was introduced to it by the Fresh Prince of Bel Air (remember that episode?) -- but there’s no denying its trademark, happy-go-lucky camp factor. If you want to sashay your way back to the cheesier times, head to Brooklyn Bowl on Thursdays. See more...
Legendary DJs and Producers, Peter Kruder and Richard Dorfmeister are returning to New York after almost a decade long hiatus to perform their only New York stop on a national tour with a spectacular show, so spectacular in fact that RefinedHype wants to put you in the seats!
I gotta hand it to Jimmy Fallon -- despite any skepticism that may have overshadowed his turn as a late-night host, he’s doing a great job of changing people’s minds. Not only does he have the Legendary Roots Crew as his house band, but last night he and Justin Timberlake treated the crowd (and the nation) to a near flawless medley of rap. See more...
Its name might be hard to pronounce, but crisp, clean flavors are universally understood at Turkish taverna Beyoglu. See more...
Whether he’s in the DJ booth or center-stage,Talib Kweli has been bouncing all over NYC lately, sharing sounds and the spotlight with his famous friends. Next Tuesday, you can catch him at Brooklyn Bowl hosting a night of dope music belted by soul/hip-hop hybrid artist Res. DJ K-Salaam will also be in the building -- which hopefully means he’ll flash some of his own talents on the turntables, and Kweli can get on the mic to do what he does so well. See more...
In these digitized days of DVRs and DVDs, it’s easier to keep up with your favorite TV shows -- but really, who has the time for them all? The Knitting Factory has an excuse to summon your inner couch potato with their free Monday night TV parties. See more...
You rarely hear a restaurant described as a “swanky cafeteria” (in a good way), but with its communal tables and moody lighting, Cafetasia makes it work. The trendy, wallet-friendly Village haunt’s eclectic menu navigates you through Asia with its fusion of flavors. The $11 tasting menu offers a sampling of favorites, such as the ginger-tinged gyo-za dumplings, pad thai and lemongrass tuna tartar. The warm apple cider -- which is just that, blended with red wine -- is a perfect autumn drink that, like Cafetasia itself, will keep you pleasantly surprised.
Each week we will send you a recap of our top stories, downloads, and videos.
