I'd rather listen to some shit like "Do or Die" that didn't make "Follow the Leader" than about 90% of the hip-hop out there. When you're leftovers are doper than most people's entrees, you know you're doing something right. Listen and download...
As I just got done explaining over on the mothership, ¡MAYDAY!'s new "Take Me To Your Leader" is really good, like really fucking good. And because the Miami crew apparently doesn't sleep, they quickly followed the album release with one of the doper actual remixes you're going to hear. Listen and download...
Just in case you weren't already sold on "Death March", or the remix, or every-fucking-thing-else-they've-ever done, the Miami crew returns with a new single, "TNT", that finds them traveling to Tunisia for some Molotov cocktail music alongside Dead Prez. Listen and download...
I don't mean to overlook Stat Quo, who delivered a hell of a verse, and of course Mayday deserve credit for cooking up a hell of an original,but....holy shit balls Pharoahe Monch killed the opening verse of the "Death March (Remix)". Fuck. This shit's so dope I've developed Tourettes - damn!
I don't know if folks outside the hardcore Strange Music fan base realizes what's happening here. By signing Mayday, my unadulterated bandwagon pick, Tech not only picks up one of the dopest live hip-hop crews working, he got himself one hell of a back-up band. Listen and download...
I'm so fucking on the Mayday bandwagon I'm driving the damn...um....bandwagon. Whatever, you get the point. While, on the real, RefinedHype and the mothership have been working with the Miami crew for a minute now, they've gone from "that pretty dope group" to "holy sh*t, these guys are f**king ill" over the past year.
Mayday are able to make live instrument hip-hop without succumbing to the "hey look at us, we're making live instrument hip-hop!" trap so many other groups fall victim to, and by combining group emcees BernBiz and Wrekonize with Dead Prez vet M1 and Boston emcee REKS, the mic skills more than match the beat. Don't worry, my heart still pumps will the blood of a rap nerd, but there's some dope new music out there in the form of new albums from Bjork, Amy Winehouse and the Black Keys. Especially that Black Keys shit, and considering their hip-hop roots it was only a matter of time before some adventurous rappity rappers took a shot at a cut Keys cut like "Sinister Kids".
