Mac Miller and Cam'ron on a track together? As unexpected as this Hip-Hop pairing might sound you can't help but expect dopeness from these two guys especially if they're on the same track together. And that's exactly what you get on their new collab "Dig That." Producer Big Jerm throws in a bit of soulful production for this one, another unexpected treat. Listen and download...
I've laid out the pro and anti Mac Miller arguments so completely over the last couple months that I almost didn't want to post "Death of an Emcee" - I know I'm gonna get sucked into the same debate I've already had approximately eleventy-billion times. But I gotta give RefinedHype Nation what they want. Listen and download....
I'm not saying Mac's the dopest rapper alive - on a purely emcee level he's not even top 25 - or even that you have to like his music, but all that anti-Miller anger is misguided. Yes, he's white and suburban, but he raps about being white and suburban. What, you'd rather have him lie and act hard? Listen and download...
Believe it or not, this rappity rap blogging thing is more than a full time job. So when the holidays hit I seize the chance to eat, sleep, hang out with the fam and otherwise be a normal, functioning member of society. But Mondays here, which means it's back to RefinedHype's obsessive rap nerdery. See more...
I was admittedly slow to get the Mac Miller phenomenon, largely because of my VIPTSD (Vanilla Ice Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) but a couple months ago I had a revelation: "Holy shit, this 19-year-old white kid from Pittsburgh is smarter than everyone else." Since then I've not only jumped on the Miller bandwagon, I've legitimately tried to learn as much from him as possible. See more...
Speaking of "Crew Love," is it just me or is this new Mac Miller track "My Team" really about his crew? This dude is actually giving shout outs complete with names of dudes in his crew and their title (right-hand man, merch seller, etc.). I'm not sure if that was genuine of Miller or if it was a little on the bromantical side. Crew bromance aside "My Team" is still kind of on the dope side. Listen and download...
Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller kept to his Twitter promise this week by releasing yet another new track after he gained an extra 100,000 followers. For this latest song Miller pays ode to the pimptastic Willie D from the 1974 flick "Willie Dynamite." I love the fact that on "Willie Dynamite" and on most of Miller's songs he tends to steer clear of any production that sounds too modern. Listen and download...
I know there's a classic hip-hop head contingent of RefinedHype Nation that are going to lose their collective bowels over the fact that the beyond legendary DJ Premier crafted a beat for Mac "the Young, White Wiz Khalifa" Miller. Honestly, even two months ago I might have gotten worked up over "Face the Facts" too. But I'm older and wiser now. Listen and download...
