With anticipation for Lupe’s upcoming album “Lasers” reaching a fever pitch everything with the word “Fiasco” attached to it is being touted as a “Lasers” leak, even when it’s not (see “Lean”). Not today. The Lupester himself confirmed today that “What You Want” is the second official single from the much hyped album (“I’m Beamin” was the first). Let the debate and speculation begin. Despite rumors that “Lean” is the latest leak off Lupe Fiasco’s upcoming album “Lasers”, it’s actually an unreleased track that’s nearly a decade old, was dug up in the Lupe archives, and through the magic of the internet, spread faster than a STD at the Jersey Shore house. With that in mind, “Lean” is actually one of the most interesting tracks we’ve heard from Lupe in a minute. While the track is unmistakably Lupe, he clearly hasn’t figured out his lyrical approach yet, struggling to balance his street background with his more expansive artistic vision. Listen and download…
In the wake of the devastation of Haiti people the world over have leapt at the chance to help however they can, including some of music’s biggest talents, including Lupe Fiasco. On the new aptly-titled track “Resurrection”, Lupe, Kenna and Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda have teamed up for a cut that’s as inspiring as it is dope. Listen and download…
It’s been a long, strange road for Lupe Fiasco’s latest track “I’m Beaming”. Produced by The Neptunes, the track was leaked about a month ago, prompting Atlantic to crack down on the leakers like the Chinese government. Atlantic’s apparently now given up all hope of the track making it onto Lupe’s “Lasers” album and decided they might as well officially release it. That’s a lot of craziness for a track that’s good but not great. Listen and download…
I know, I know. Two Chris Brown tracks in one day? Yeah, well when Lupe Fiasco, one of the best, most creative rappers alive tarnishes his legacy on Brown’s atrocious new track “Girlfriend” that s**t is newsworthy. I haven’t been this disappointed since I found out Santa wasn’t real…or that Salma Hayek’s breasts were fake. Point is, they were both mildly traumatic experiences the likes of which are comparable to listen to Lupe go in over one of the worst Chris Brown songs in Chris Brown history. Black Friday may be the most lucrative shopping day of the year, but it’s also the most perilous. To put things into perspective, one unfortunate participant was gored to death during Pamplona’s most recent Running of the Bulls festival, while Black Friday 2008 claimed a whopping three lives (one was trampled, two shot each other to death over a toy). For that very reason, I’m leaving bargain-hunting to the brave, and instead spending the day chilling at home, savoring Lupe Fiasco’s new street album, “Enemy of the State: A Love Story”.
Coincidence or not, ever since MTV left Lupe off it’s “Hottest MCs” list the chcago wonder has been on a tear, dropping some straight fire (both literally and figuratively) for the past four weeks. In fact he’s amassed so much material he’s promised to drop a mixtape, titled “Enemy of the State: A Love Story” on Thanksgiving. Well we can all give thanks a couple days early, because Lupe’s released the first track off that mixtape, a remix/freestyle (freemix?) of Dirty Money’s “Angels”. See more to listen and download…
You know what, I’m officially declaring today Lupe Fiasco Freestyle Day here on RefinedHype. Just an hour after I posted Lupe’s most recent work, his lyrically devastating cover of “Say Something”, I got hit with another fiasco of a track “Turnt Up”, a surprisingly Southern banger featuring Lupe dropping an almost trap music style flow. Lupe Fiasco claims his recent onslaught of new, dope material has nothing to do with his exclusion from MTV’s “Hottest MCs Alive” list, but it sure seems that way. After recently releasing the the hard rock oriented cuts “Fire” and “Solar Midnite”, Lupe this time returns to his more traditional hip-hip roots by taking over Timbaland’s new single “Say Something” with a three minute lyrical masterpiece. If you’re like me you’re not going to see the teen vampire flick “New Moon”, nor were you planning on listening to the soundtrack…except Lupe Fiasco’s contribution. Having just crushed us with “Fire”, Lupe Fiasco is back with his new cut “Solar Midnite” of the upcoming New Moon Soundtrack. “Solar Midnite’ is by far Lupe’s most hard rock track to date.
