Today Laws turns in a remix of the mixtape standout track "Hold You Down". This time around the bouncing, DJ Khalid-produced cut features two new verses from Laws (see Busta, was that so hard), an absolutely sick flow from "The Natural" Emilio Rojas and a solid Southern verse from recent Def Jam signee Big K.R.I.T.
Having finally recovered from the musical Mardi Gras that was the annual SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, RefinedHype is finally ready to release some footage of the festivities. Having already interviewed legendary hip-hop journalist Elliott Wilson, today our very own Quentin Cuff catches up with "The Natural" Emilio Rojas to talk about the (mostly positive) response to his music, the story behind his "Sympathy for the Devil" video and why he's neck's so sore.
Court Dunn, the director whose One-Shot series I wrapped up before, has teamed up with the future of New Jersey Emilio Rojas for some one shot visuals to his track "Sympathy for the Devil", an autobiographical cut that features him unearthing his troubled relationship with his father (a.k.a. the devil), even personfiying his fathers failings at time. Hence the intense symbolism when Rojas and Rojas playing his own father unite - Rojas is himself, like his father, the devil. See more...
There's nothing wrong with having a good time, but every so often (hopefully often) you have to set the lighter side of life aside and get down to business, and when you do, "Get Em" should be your soundtrack. Built on some grinding production by Neenah, "Get Em" finds the always quality DJ KO bringing on the unshakable mic skills of Silent Knight, Skyzoo and Emilio Rojas. Sorry kids, you're gonna have to leave the room. The grown-ups are talking. Listen and download...
The word "anticipated" gets throw around pretty loosely these days. There are more than a couple projects that I was "anticipating" about as much as I was anticipating a kick in the nuts, but rising star Emilio Rojas' "The Natural" was definitely worthy of the term. A NY emcee with Latino roots who's equally comfortable swaggering and dropping deeply introspective flows, it's no exaggeration to say that Rojas might just be the future of hip-hop. Everywhere I turn these days I get hit with some new Emilio Rojas, and I'm pretty damn happy about it. The man has to be rightfully considered one of hip-hop's brightest talents. Fresh from dropping his dope new track "Piano Bounce" Rojas is back with two new videos. The first features him spitting an ill freestyle for RubyHornet.com, and the second, well, the second involved him getting into a fight with Donelle Rawlings. I won't lie, it's entertaining as f**k.
There's not a rapper in the game quite like Rojas. The young New Jersey native's flow combines a sharp humor with introspective insight, a combination that's on display once again on his new track "Piano Bounce". Named (I have to imagine) after the track's Green Lantern beat, featuring a piano riff that morphs into a street banger, "Piano Bounce" is a trademark Rojas cut as he touches on everything from his fashion style to his struggle to retain his Latino heritage, all with dope lyrical sense.
