I have a mental disorder - it doesn't yet have a name - in which I can listen to entire albums with enormous significance and yet become fixated on only the smallest, most insignificant details. Case in point, Drake's new High Note Flow (trademark pending), which just like his Elongated Pause Flow which infuriatingly became the post popular style of 2010, I'm pretty sure he stole from Big Sean.
Straight off the bat because of the name I really expected "Crew Love" to be a high-energy and somewhat questionable song about groupies and the struggle they have to go through to work their way to the top. And by "top" I do mean Drake. But umm I think it's safe to say that I was a little off with my prediction. Listen and download...
At this point even the most ardent Drake detractors have excepted that he's not going anywhere. Barring a T.I. streak of arrests or Nicki Minaj accidentally suffocating him while making Drizzy toss her salad (belated NSFW warning) the man's going to be in the game for a very long time. I honesty don't know what to say about Mary J. Blige and Drake's "Mr. Wrong." I feel like it's just a bland song. It's not necessarily bad, but at the same time I can't pinpoint anything I like about the song. On top of that "Mr. Wrong" sounds very recycled. Drake's sing-songy rap part sounds awfully familiar and the production sounds like it was pulled from a previous Mary song. Listen and download...
I have to say Drake is really giving me a "So Far Gone" vibe with his latest release "The Real Her" and I'm digging it. I don't think I've heard anything this reminiscent of Drake's first mixtape in quite some time. The "So Far Gone" feel is likely a combination of Drake's singing and the smooth, R&B heavy production on "The Real Her." Listen and download...
First off, I think we can all agree that Drake's claim that the 2010 Miami Heat is the greatest NBA team of all-time is a travashamockery. If a team hasn't at the very least own a title they shouldn't even be mentioned in this debate, the same way that a rapper who hasn't even released an album yet can't claim to be one of the best rappers alive. So last weekend Drake tapped into his seemingly long forgotten acting side for an appearance on "Saturday Night Live" where he appeared in two different skits. Now while the first skit, the one where Drake's being interviewed was funny I feel like Drake didn't really have to put in much effort into being funny for this one. But the second skit is where the magic is. See more...
I have to admit I'm not mad at this new Drake and Nicki Minaj track "Make Me Proud." I was dreadfully expecting something reminiscent of the very bubbly "Moment 4 Life," but fortunately "Make Me Proud" steers clear of sounding like that song. "Make Me Proud" takes on a more aggressive beat as both Drake and Nicki exchange verses and hooks. Listen and download...
