Discover New Dopeness: T-Shirt & Darvin Silva’s “Tan Face Children” (FreEP LIsten & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 03/10/10 | Filed under Mixtapes, Download, T. Shirt & Davin Silva

There's a specific type of joy you feel when you discover new dope music, and today I'm feeling joyous about T-Shirt and Darvin Silva's new freEP "Tan Face Children". For all I know the duo has a huge following, but I'd honestly never heard of them when one of my most trusted hip-hop compatriots slid over a new track, "24 Frames", with one of those "check out this shit' looks on his faces. A minute later I was listening to one of the more creative cuts I'd heard in a minute, five minutes later I was downloading the new EP. Listen & download...

Youngs Gets Ill on “Him & Her” (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 02/05/10 | Filed under Download, Youngs

I had never heard of Youngs before yesterday, but I quickly discovered that not only is the Illinois emcee undeniably dope, he's one of those guys that you quickly learn is everyone's favorite "rapper no one else has heard of," a status that's not going to last long. Just in case you're like me and aren't up on your Youngs, or you're reading this and going "I was listening to him before all of y'all!", I highly recommend checking out his new single "Him & Her", a SoulTree produced joint that puts his storytelling skills on full display. DMX is Back…With Terrible “Put Em Up” (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 01/28/10 | Filed under Download, DMX

If you think about it the story of Earl Simmons (DMX) is tragic. The same anger that fueled his music also tore apart his personal life, effectively removing him from the rap game. So way back in May when a new DMX single leaked, then titled "The Way It's Gonna Be", and it sounded terrible, I hoped for the best. Maybe it was just a demo? Nope. Now renamed "Put Em Up" it's officially a single off his upcoming album, and it's so bad it kind of makes me sad. Listen and download...

Posted by Nathan S. on 01/26/10 | Filed under Download, Pugs Atomz

RefinedHype is proud to present Pugs Atomz, the multi-talented Chicago emcee and his new single "Blue Blazer". Coming off his new album "Roof Top", "Blue Blazer" brings together Pugs always dynamic wordplay along with guest verses from Rashid Hadee and Theo, as well as some turntablism from DJ Edikut, who gives the track it's signature sample. If you've never heard Pugs you'd be hard pressed to find a better track to get caught up to the man's unique style on than "Blue Blazer". Listen and download...

Posted by Nathan S. on 01/21/10 | Filed under Download, Bisco Smith

Hip-hop's always been about more than raps, and New York artist Bisco Smith is much more than just a rapper. An artist whose heavily involved in both urban music and design, Bisco recently released his new album "The Broadcast" and in celebration we're being treated to the "Fresh Water (Remix)". Produced by Blockhead, "Fresh Water (Remix)" is a dope introduction to Bisco's gravelly voice, deadpan delivery, and intensely vivid imagery. Listen and download...

Stat Quo Delivers “The Status Report” Mixtape (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 12/14/09 | Filed under Mixtapes, Download, Stat Quo

To date Stat Quo's "Ghetto U.S.A." video remains one of the most popular to ever drop on RefinedHype, so it was only natural that we'd post the man's latest brand new mixalbum "The Status Report" (more on that later). One of the ATL's rising rap stars, Stat Quo is equally capable of pumping out bangers and thought provoking music, a combination that's got hip-hop nation eagerly awaiting the release of his upcoming album "Statlanta", currently set to drop in early 2010. In the meantime, check out the full report on the game's status right now.

Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne Can’t Afford “Scared Money” (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 12/10/09 | Filed under Lil Wayne, Download, Game

Ever since he dropped "The Recession" Young Jeezy's been a guilty pleasure of mind, kind of like the hip-hop version of eating pork rinds or watching "Jersey Shore". There's almost no redeeming qualities to be found, but damnit if Jeezy's always booming beats and "I brush my teeth wil gravel" voice aren't entertaining as hell. In that spirit I present the Snowman's new single "Scared Money" featuring the soon to be imprisoned Lil Wayne, who at the very least drops a great Bonecrusher reference. Listen and download...

Jay-Z Picks “On to the Next One” as New Single. Right Choice? (Listen & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 12/03/09 | Filed under Jay-Z, Download

It's official: Jay-Z's selected "On to the Next One" as the next single off his uber-smash album "Blueprint 3". A bouncing, club ready cut featuring production (and ad-libs) from Swizz Beats, "On to the Next One" is catchy, but I don't think it's a hit. Far be it from me to question hip-hop's president, but I wouldn't have gone with "On to the Next One" as the next single, and not just because Swizz has been making the same beat for five years now.
