To say that Common can hold his own would be a tremendous understatement so of course the original version of "Ghetto Dreams" which features three verses from Common instead of a verse from Nas is hella dope. I'm glad that Common went with the version featuring Nas for the album, but I'm not mad at this version at all and it still features Nas on the hook. Listen and download...
Today Common released his ninth studio album album "The Dreamer / The Believer", and to celebrate RefinedHype's taking a look back at the legendary Chicago emcee's best work, picking one track off each project. It's not easy to distill almost two decades of dopeness into one Best Of list, but that's why I get paid the big bucks.
While you might catch a few rappers breaking down a mere track or two off of their latest projects, Common is taking things a bit further by releasing individual video breakdowns of all of the songs on his new album "The Dreamer, The Believer." From watching video of the first two breakdowns you can really see how passionate Common is about this latest album. See more...
From "Raw" to "Sweet" to a track-by-track video breakdown, over the past few weeks Common's been tryin to make new dope hip-hop like Kid Capri (used to) make tapes. It's the kind of promo blitz usually reserved for wack music that needs the hype, but everything I've heard off "The Dreamer, The Believer" has pointed to a last minute Album of the Year. Listen...
As we continue to build the definitive track by track breakdown of Common's upcoming album "The Dreamer, The Believer," the Chi-Town legend steps right back into the fray with new release "Raw", a cut that's about as swagged out and "Go"-esque as you're going to hear Com get. Turns out I was only half-joking with that headline. Listen and download...
From the sound of it I highly doubt that they'll be a single mediocre track on Common's "The Dreamer/The Believer" album. It also sounds like we can expect a lot of variety on the album lyrically. You had Common snapping on phony rappers on "Sweet" and now we have the much more uplifting track "The Believer." Listen and download...
Don't get me wrong, I'm still stoked to hear Common's upcoming album "The Dreamer, The Believer". That shit has album of the year potential. It's just that I'm a little less stoked after hearing his latest release "Celebrate". I'm all for the good times, but after the next level dopeness that was "Sweet"? "Celebrate" ironically feels a little deflating. This isn't next level, it's same level. See more...
