What is the difference between an album and a mixtape?  Perception is everything.  Some people hear the word “mixtape” and they immediately classify it in a project that may have not been that serious.  A lot of people are putting out mixtapes.  That’s nothing new.  But when you hear ALBUM, that seems to hold a little more prestige with people.  It’s a bigger deal and might even compel you to go check it out more than if it was just a mixtape.

To me, creating “Dreamer’s Poetry”, and album I worked on for years, was a very interesting, diverse experience. It was wonderful. It was horrible. It was uplifting. It was nerve-wracking. So 2009 was a very crazy year from the genre of hip-hop and urban music. A lot of newcomers made their debut and/or advanced to the forefront of the game, while others showed they’re still relevant even decade into their careers. Here’s a quick look back at the year that was, a glance into the crystal ball to predict what’s to come.

So we’ve made it to the end of the first decade of the new Millennium.  It’s almost unreal to think about.  I can vividly remember it being 1999 like it was yesterday, about to turn to the year 2000. Now 10 years has already passed by and we are about to enter into the second decade of the 2000s.  One thing I can say is that there was A LOT of changes that happened in hip hop since the clock struck 12AM on January 1, 2000.  Today, I’m going to explore my personal opinion on what I think we the best hip hop albums of the decade. What is making people treat Chris Brown this way? Is it because people think domestic violence is worse than any other crime? I personally feel that people should be given second chances. But even aside from that matter, on a level of just looking at music separate from personal life, I don’t think that people should try and shut down and interfere with someone’s ability to make money and provide for themselves through what they do.  Kobe Bryant cheats on his wife…do they keep him for playing basketball?
