Given the sheer quantity of music flying across the interwebs every day, and my quality over quantity approach, it's unavoidable that some worthy tracks get left off RefinedHype's pages. But so many people hit me up about this new XV track, "Smallville", produced by J. Cole, that I had to honor the will of the people. Consider it posted.

Fresh off his victory in the "H.A.M. Freestyle" battle, Vizzy's taking on a darker tone than we're used to hearing from him on "Smallville", although he does manage to work in a sick "Saved by the Bell" reference in the first verse. For his part Cole crafts an eerie beat that grabs The Smashing Pumpkins "To Forgive" for the sample, and the result is a track that indicates that "The Kid With the Green Backpack" might be a deeper and more cinematic album than we were anticipating.

And for every blog out there reporting that this will be off "Kid With a Green Backpack"...yeah, no it won't. Instead it's off some mysterious project Vizzy's refusing to divulge the details to:

Well then. In that case, we'll just have to let the suspense build. Well played XV, well played. (Yes, DJ Z's real name is Brian, but that's the only inside info I'm revealing. You didn't really expect me to post folks emails, did you?)

I love that beat. This is my first time hearing XV, and he's not bad imo, but I wish Cole would've gotten on that beat.

Agreed - makes me wish more producers would sample the Smashing Pumpkins. There's clearly some dope territory to be covered.
