“Black & Yellow” + Poppier Hook = Wiz Khalifa’s “Work Hard Play Hard” (Listen)Posted by Nathan S. on 04/23/12 | Filed under Top Stories, Wiz Khalifa
Just a few short weeks ago Wiz Khalifa wrote an open letter to his fans apologizing for going pop on his last album and promising that for the next album he'd stay Taylor Gang to the core. Well, the results are in, and if "Work Hard Play Hard" is any indication, he wasn't lying...kind of...sort of...I mean, not really...entirely.
Basically, if I had to explain to someone who went deaf precisely on January 1, 2012 what "Work Hard Play Hard" sounded like I'd say, "It sounds a lot like "Black and Yellow", only with a more pop friendly hook", and they'd be able to get the idea. Stargate's back on the beat, crafting a banger that eases up considerably on the chorus.
Personally, it gets a Kanye shrug, but frankly I'm not enough of a Wiz Khalifa fan to feel too strongly either way. Maybe some of the more Taylor Gang dual citizens of RefinedHype Nation can provide some more strongly worded commentary. Have at it people.
Oh, and Wiz has officially joined the ranks of artists big enough for Atlantic Records to spend that lawyer money on, so stream only. Enjoy, or not:
