Wale & Kid Cudi Are “Focused” on Making Catchy, Shallow Hip-Hop (Listen & Download)

Having apparently cleared up that ridiculous "beef" I'm ashamed I even remotely paid attention to, the conscience of Maybach Music Wale and (former) liquid cocaine drinker Kid Cudi have teamed up to drop a hazy, hard to pinpoint new single, "Focused". Honestly, I don't really know what to make of this one.

I guess we'll just have to break it down piece by piece. That beat scared me at first, it opened up sounding like a late '90s dance jam, but when the percussion hits it goes from cringe-inducing to perfectly serviceable production. For his part Kid Cudi doesn't do much besides kind of sing a distorted hook, but no one kind of sings a heavily distorted hook better than Cudi (and yes, I mean that as a compliment). And behind the mic Wale's pretty much on his straight stunting shit.

My head's nodding, but I don't think I'll be listening to this by tomorrow. Maybe some citizens of RefinedHype Nation have stronger feelings, we'll see.....
