Now that Wale's done with his bid for mainstream radio play (a.k.a. the controversial "Pretty Girls" video) the biggest rap star in D.C. history is moving onto visuals for what many, including me, consider one of the best tracks off his "Attention Deficit" album, "Diary". You might want to get some Keenex our ladies, this one might just make you cry.
The Refined Take:
1) Rookie mistake by Wale. You never approach a group of girls like that - when they're in groups like that women are super-protective. Trying to talk to a girl while her five girlfriends glare at you disapprovingly just aren't odds any man wants a part of. I'm just saying, there's a reason lions wait until the gazelle they're after gets separated from the herd.
2) "Every problem that you ever had with another man I gotta face." That may just be the realest shit he ever wrote.
3) Bad news? Finding a phone number from another girl in your man's pants. Worse news? Her name is Jade. So now not only is your man cheating on you, but he's doing it with someone who has a wanna-be stripper name.
4) In part this video just reminds be of how dope Marsha Ambrosius is. Seriously, that "Sincerely Yours" EP might just be the best r&b/soul mixtape of the year so far.
5) As part of my ongoing mission to stamp out sports infidelity, I'd like to give Wale huge props for rocking a Nationals hat int his video, even though they're far from an elite team. Most rappers would have gone with some bullshit Yankees cap here - way to rep for the DMV Wale.
Glad he dropped a video for this, one of my favourite tracks off his dope album, along with Prescription. A soulful, honest and raw track. Not to mention the production is oh so suiting, and of course Marsha delivers.
Might as well through this version out there as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOB0egm0DJA
One of my favourite "new school" artists breaking into the game, and will probably remain as such.
