Vibe Magazine Reveals Cover Featuring Erykah Badu

First off, I want to applaud Vibe Magazine for actually putting Erykah Badu on the cover. They kinda killed it by making it a double cover with Nicki Minaj, but at least they gave Ms. Badu her props.

For the most part the cover is simple. Badu isn’t clad in overwhelming costume jewelry or head-to-toe couture. Instead, she appears on the cover “naked” sporting only an Ankh ring and eccentric gold earrings. The makeup is also pretty low-key and she’s even sporting painted on hair.

In Badu’s interview with Vibe, which was conducted by writer Chloé A. Hilliard, Badu of course touched on her controversial “Window Seat” video among other topics.

"I look at some other videos. I’m not naming names, because I don’t want that to be mentioned,” Erykah Badu explained to Vibe. “There is the thing with sexuality. I’m naked for 13 seconds, and these people are naked the whole time and gyrating and saying come ‘lick on my lollipop,’ and ‘suck on my cinnamon roll,’ and, you know, suggesting sex. People are uncomfortable with sexuality that’s not for male consumption. Could be ‘cause I did it in public too. Do you think people would have been complaining if I had on high-heel shoes?"

Vibe Magazine’s June/July issue featuring double covers with Nicki Minaj and Erykah Badu will be released on June 15. More pics from the Vibe shoot are below.
