VH1 Hip Hop Honors to Recognize the Dirty South

Earlier this week, VH1 released a press release stating that this years VH1 Hip Hop Honors will pay homage to the music of the Dirty South. Among the artists to be honored are Jermaine Dupri, J Prince of Rap-A-Lot Records, Luther "Luke" Campbell AND 2Live Crew, Master P, and Organized Noize. Of course we had to give our thoughts on the Southern artists we thought should have been included on this list.

Outkast


Outkast is easily Top 5 when it comes to hottest Hip Hop groups and we think it’s about time VH1 gave this iconic group their props. Oddly enough though, word on the street is Outkast has yet to be honored on Hip Hop Honors because Andre 3000 doesn‘t want the group to be recognized. There goes that suggestion…

Goodie Mob


Since Outkast may never be recognized at a Hip Hop Honors then they might as well move on to the next best thing, and that is Goodie Mob. Thanks to both Goodie Mob and Outkast the South was finally put on the map for all the right reasons. Goodie Mob have definitely paid their dues, and have maintained their relevance to this day.

8Ball & MJG


No shots at So So Def, but 8Ball & MJG could have easily replaced Jermaine Dupri at this years Hip Hop Honors. This Memphis duo have been doing their thing for years now and are still putting out new music. The duo’s new album is expected to be released later this year.
