"With so much drama goin down in the LBC it's kinda hard being Snoop D-O-Double-G but I, somehow someway, keep comin up with funky ass shit like every single day." Do I really have to say more? That's what I thought. Snoop Dogg's "Gin and Juice", it really doesn't get any better.
The Refined Take:
1) No major rapper would ever open their video this way now, but back in the day apparently it was law that any west coast gangster video had to open with said gangster rapper getting annoyed by their parents (see Cube's "It Was a Good Day" and Dre's "Ain't Nothin But a G Thang"). The lesson? Housing prices in California are insane. Even a gangster has to move in with his mom.
2) Also, it just occurred to me that a lot of young folks out there might not get the "Home Alone" reference in the beginning. Nothing makes you feel older than when kids say things like "Home Alone, was that a movie or something?"
3) If there's a more classic line from a hip-hop video than "Snoop Doggy Dogg needs to get himself a jobby job" I can't think of it. I used that line on my previously unemployed younger brother about 100 times and it never got old.
4) Why doesn't Snoop ever rock an afro anymore? And why do people call them "fros" instead of "afros"? What, we're too lazy to pronounce the one extra letter? Anyway, he looks fantastic riding on the front of that bike, and I highly recommend Snoop's considers going with an old school look sometime soon.
5) Unless anyone can prove otherwise, I'd like to officially give Snoop the "First Rapper to Ever Rock a Pittsburgh Penguins Jersey For No Apparent Reason" Award. Congratulations Snoop, you earned it.
