Throwback Thursday: Ice Cube “It Was a Good Day” (Video)

Anyday that includes picking up a girl you've been trying to get since the 8th grade, and a personal shout out from the Goodyear blimp is a damn good day. That's right, it's Ice Cube's classic 1993 single "It Was a Good Day", a track nearly everyone I know calls "Today Was a Good Day." Enjoy:




The Refined Take:

1) Here's a quick list of everything that made this such a good day for Cube: no barking dogs, no smog, mom cooked pork-free breakfast, didn't overeat, got booty call, didn't get carjacked, Kim paged him, solid b-ball performance, no static from cowards, cops ignored him, watched Yo MTV Raps, won at dice and dominoes, no one he knows got killed, Lakers beat the Supersonics, felt on the big fat fanny, put her ass to sleep, no helicopters, delicious FatBurger run, Goodyear blimps reads "Ice Cube's a pimp," drunk but didn't puke, didn't have to use AK.

2) This song has reached such an iconic status that you almost forget how good it is. Ice Cube absolutely kills this track - one of the best lyrical performances in hip-hop history.

3) Now I've never seen Ice Cube play basketball, but frankly I doubt the man put up a triple double against even reasonably decent opponents, let alone "freak em like MJ." Unless by "MJ" he means Jackson, not Jordan.

4) Never realized this before, but for a gangsta, he still lives with his mom. Guess the dice game income isn't enough to get his own place.
