This Week in Hype Podcast: The Boston Edition ft. J The S

Posted by Nathan S. on 04/19/13 | Filed under This Week in Hype, Podcasts, J The S
On a normal week I would have spent this week's podcast talking about Jay-Z' "Open Letter" and Ghostface's new album, but this was not a normal week. The marathon bombings in Boston has shaken my hometown, and myself, to the core. But Boston is not only still standing, the city is already determined to keep running.

So this week I'm dedicating an entire episode to Boston and everyone who's been affected by the attacks. So I brought on the incomparable J The S to talk about finding hope and empathy in the aftermath of tragedy, the music we turn to in times of struggle and much more.

Much love and respect to J The S for joining me for this dedication. You should check out his last album, "Last Days", and keep an ear out for his new band, Blue Gold. As Obama said, we must no “run with endurance the race that is set before us.”

Update: J The S and I recorded this before the shootout and arrests on Thursday night.

Discussed This Week:

* The cover of J The J's old school "When In Rome" mixtape.
* The Boston Marathon attacks.
* The struggle to remain compassionate in the face of fear.
* Hip-hop's lack of truly emotional music.
* This week's closing song, the Doobie Brothers' "Jesus Is Just Alright".

You should subscribe to "This Week in Hype" on iTunes. Come on, go ahead. All the cool kids are doing it.
