The Roots Look Heavenward on “Dear God 2.0” Video (Watch)

Posted by Nathan S. on 06/21/10 | Filed under Videos, The Roots

What, you thought I was kidding when I said today I was giving the site over to The Roots and B.o.B.? Any problems with that? I thought not. So after a remix of "The Fire" featuring B.o.B. I'm back on my Philly ish with the latest visuals from The Roots other single, "Dear God". Enjoy...

The Refined Take:

1) First off, dope concept with BlackThought playing the cab driver who's giving a ride to all sorts of troubled people. Props to the director Jason Goldwatch. (For the record, that dude with the beard, I'm assuming, is Jim James, off Jim James and the Monsters of Folk, who are featured on the track.)

2) I don't want to encourage shoplifting, but kids, it's never a good idea to make the fat kid carry the backpack. He's slow enough already. Use your fat friend to distract and give the backpack to the faster dude. That way if you get chased you'll both get away, and hopefully hold onto your good. I mean....or so I hear.

3) Yo, it took me a couple views, but I just figured out this video is shot "Pulp Fiction" style. It starts off with the last scene, and then rewinds to see how we got to that point. Ok, this video just got 1.5 times doper.

4) I'm left with one lingering question from this video though; what the hell was in the metal briefcase the Orthodox Jewish guy was holding? Any theories? Anyone?

5) The Roots "How I Got Over" is available on iTunes now and in stores tomorrow. I'm listening to it now (legally, thank you very much) and I'll personally vouch for the quality. Support quality music.

Great video- reminds me a lot of the movie Collateral- which, should be noted, featured The Seed 2.0.

Collateral...was that the Tom Cruise flick with Jamie Foxx? I feel like I remember it being surprisingly good.

Right. It had Jamie Foxx playing a cab driver that was being held at gun point to drive Tom Cruise to his different targets.

Like I said, it featured The Seed 2.0. And here's Dear God 2.0. That can't all be a coincidence.
