I know The Redland's video "Don't Know What It Means" has been out for a minute, but I just really realized how dope it is, so just in case the Nirvana inspired track has slipped by you as well I thought I'd take a moment to really dig in. What can I say? I'm a sucker for any video that thinks "For the Love of Ray J" is a sign of the apocalypse. Enjoy.
The Refined Take:
1) For starters I have to give it up to The Redlands, a Nirvana tribute project was a fantastic f**king idea. On a related note, the first hip-hop artist to integrate Metallica into some tracks, and do it well, will earn my undying respect. Come on, like you wouldn't want to hear a rap version of "Enter the Sandman"? I can't be alone on this.
2) I also have to hand out some props to the video makers on this one. The washed out colors, the barren backdrop, the shots of the kid, they all add up to some powerful visuals.
3) I wouldn't be doing my job if I also didn't direct you to Nivana's "In Bloom", the song this is based on. You know, it's that Ed Sullivan-esque video? Just watch it.
4) It's good to see Ray J in an apocalyptic video montage. I've been pushing for years for a boycott of all things Ray-J related (except Brandy) and it's good to know I'm not alone. Together we can stop the madness people.
5) If you're interest has been significantly piqued by the video be sure to check out The Redland's "Free Album", which can be downloaded here.
