The Grouch is for the Children on “Whatever I Say” (Video & Download)

Posted by Nathan S. on 03/04/10 | Filed under Top Stories, Downloads, Videos, The Grouch

Much like ODB, living underground rhyme legend (literally and figuratively) The Grouch does if for the babies, and to prove it he's filmed his latest video, "Whatever I Say", at a Bay Area elementary school. I guarantee this video will take you back, although my childhood never sounded this dope.

Download link and Refined Take are underneath the video:

The Refined Take:

1) I'm a grown ass man, but I'm still jealous that these kids got a school visit from The Grouch. Damn you little kids, damn you.

2) Of course I kid, though that principal is dope for letting Grouch come in. I did a little research and as far as I can tell the school is Lakeview Elementary in Oakland (a.k.a. the school my daughter's now going to if I move back the Bay).

3) By the way, as far as I can tell those shots of the San Francisco skyline were taken from Treasure Island which, unless you think crumbling and closed military barracks and washed up trash are a treasure, is the worst named island ever.

4) God what I wouldn't give to play a little four-square right now. I guarantee I would run any of you fools in a game. Any takers? Don't make me bust out a Tree Top to Bus Stop on you.

5) Sorry, got a little too distracted reminiscing on the good 'ol days. More importantly, this track is dope, and for more dopeness be sure to check out Grouch's upcoming "Three Eyes Off The Time" album, available now on iTunes.

As Z would put it, DJ Fresh smashed the boardwork with this. It has crashing cymbals, blaring horns, heavy bass, handclapping backed with exuberant shouts, all laced together into an undeniable head nodder. The Grouch leaves a solid impression with bars, too. The track really jumps out of the speaker.

Thanks for posting this, Nathan. Totally slipped under my radar. Thanks a lot!

That's why I'm here for Mr. Top Hat. And yes, the beat's a monster. Even Grouch says so during the intro.

I can't wait for the new Grouch! Thanks for this, love when the bay gets some love. It's funny how his priorities have changed since the birth of his daughter and hearing how he has grown and evolved. Great messages over great beats, this is what hip-hop needs.
