Swizz Beatz or Rakim? Which One is “King Tut”? (Listen & Download)

Swizz Beatz King Tut
I have to be honest right off the bat. Swizz Beatz has been a primary source of mockery for me around these pages, mostly because he keeps insisting on ruining "Good Friday" tracks and making a slightly different version of the same beat for the past five years, but this new "King Tut" record? I'm not so sure. This might actually be pretty nice.

I mean, he may have ripped off the horns from "Popular Demand", but at least the beat's not that looped percussion and ad-lib thing. And while Mr. Keys' flow still has a long, long way to go, he does seem to be getting better (peep the multiple Eric B. and Rakim references). Speaking of which, Rakim himself shows up for a guest verse that's far from his best, but still perfectly respectable. I don't know, this might just be decent.

Or do I need to get my head checked? Let's find out.

The horns are from N.E.R.D - God Bless Us All, off the new album Nothing. It's incredible, this isn't anywhere near as good.

Looks like we have a Production Breakdown column in the works. N.E.R.D. obviously used the same sample for Popular Demand and God Bless Us All - now all we have to do is track down that original sample.

Great heads up Daryl.

My eyes sorta lit up upon seeing Rakim. But... Swizz, stop ruining songs. Please. If you want to release an album that bad, just produce the tracks and show up for a couple seconds- preferably at the end.

I mean, this is dope, not going to lie, but it could be better. I will say that this is a better vocal contribution from Swizz than usual, though.
