Underground raps about how conscious you are really aren't that original - we've all heard them a thousand times. What's really dope is when a rapper's good enough to take every cliched, tired line in the book and flips them into something actually dope and brand new. Welcome to
STS' aptly-named "
Cliche".
This kind of meta, story within a story, commentary on rap that's also a rap thing is quickly becoming STS's trademark. He just wrapped "
Interview", and now with "Cliche" I'm happy to say the man's definitely got my attention. I won't front, I've still got to give Sha Stimuli's "
Unsung' as the best watch-me-turn-these-other-rappers-lead-to-gold track of all time, but this is definitely in the running. It's official - I'm stoked for the release of his "The Illustrious" album.
Oh, and more than a couple examples from "
Rap Lines That Need to Die" found there way on here. Listen close.
