Statik Selektah,
Big K.R.I.T., and
Freddie Gibbs take a visit to their past's on "Play The Game" as K.R.I.T. and Gibbs rap about the struggles they faced in their earlier years. Although they're rapping about struggle it's somewhat refreshing hearing artists who've found success speak on all they had to go through to get to where they are today. While some like to pretend that the road to stardom is about as carefree as an afternoon stroll on Rodeo others are a bit more real about things.
Big K.R.I.T. dives head first into his past struggles as he raps, "I remember way back we had to pay for scraps." Gibbs shares a similar tone as he delivers his haunting verse and comments on weakening a particular family thanks to "all that shit I sell they mother." Statik's production fits the song well and if I didn't know any better I would have thought the beat was taken straight from one of Outkast's early albums.
