Considering we've been waiting on both their albums since the Civil War wrapped up, it's fitting that the ATL's latest hypemaker
Stat Quo says his new mixtape "
2010" is inspired by Dr. Dre (although frankly besides the title it's hard to hear Dre's influence on "2010"). In a city overflowing with talented rappers it takes a lot to be considered of the best and brightest, and Stat's earned such lofty praise.
(Warning: If you don't want to read me ranting skip down to the tracklist/download links/tracks.) Like everything in life, timing matters. So why rappers would choose to release a project on Friday afternoon, when most people, including the media, have left work is beyond me. There's a reason all albums drop on Tuesdays - it ensures the project gets at least a full week of coverage instead of being forgotten/buried over the weekend. I'm sure Stat has his reasons, so this is more of a heads-up to other rappers: I know it might sound cool to drop a project on Friday/Christmas/New Year's Eve, but I guarantee it will get half the attention it would otherwise.
Don't want to end on a low note. My random complaining aside, this is a dope project that deserves a listen, and I highly recommend you keep an ear out for Stat's long-long-awaited "Statlanta" album, finally set to drop on June 22...hopefully.
