Holy S**t, Did SportsCenter Just Shout Out 9th Wonder & Actual Proof? (Video)

Posted by Nathan S. on 02/04/11 | Filed under Top Stories, Videos, 9th Wonder, Actual Proof

That headline's actually a rhetorical question. They did. We're all used to Stuart Scott making poor hip-hop references during SportsCenter, but otherwise the world of rap gets very little love on ESPN. That's why I almost did one of those movie spittakes when I heard John Buccigross shout out 9th Wonder proteges Actual Proof, and their "The Talented Tenth" mixtape, on SportCenter last night.

No one else here cares, but if we could talk about me for a moment....I worked with 9th and Act Proof to drop the mixtape for the mothership, so as far as I'm concerned, I basically just got a shout out on SportsCenter. Not gonna lie, big day for me. (Hey, allow me my delusions of grandeur for a moment.)

Update: And he just shouted out Halo on last night's. It's good to know the ESPN crew spends so much time on the mothership (check out Halo's "Heat Writer II" mixtape.)

Congratulations! But you would think they would use a pop-culture metaphor that more people would know. Or maybe I'm just underestimating general society.

Congrats man, I'm about as surprised at the reference as you are. I wouldn't have understood it if I wasn't on this site so @Originality has a good point.

^ Appreciate the love, but in all seriousness, the real props go out to 9th and his team. I never thought I'd hear the day when ESPN shouted out a conscious crew from NC, but here we are.

LOL...I thought I heard that ish. I just dismissed it though because I didn't think he would actually know who Sundown and Enigma are. That's what's up though.

And he followed it the next night with a Halo reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxHANbJLIE4

That man loves him some 9th Wonder music. Hmmm...where could he be getting it from?
