I can't front, I'm a big fan of what Atlanta crew
SMKA is doing. They've essentially turned themselves into a small label, except they do all the smart things the labels are too old and big to figure out - like releasing giant compilation projects featuring all in-house production from
808s Blake. The latest release off their "The 808 Experiment" series is "
For the People", a deeply soulful cut featuring quality rhyme work from east coaster
Donny Goines, Southerner
Bobby Creekwater and Midwesterner
Mikkey Halsted.
It's a dope track on its own, when put in contrast to
previous releases, the versatility is even more impressive. SMKA's new mega-compilation mixtape, "The 808 Experiment: Vol 3", drops on April 26. Mark your calendars suckas.
(p.s. - Re-reading this I'm obviously in a good mood this morning. Maybe it's time for a RefinedLove series to balance out
RefinedHate.)
