A few weeks ago we were
talking about how while undoubtedly one of the most talented lyricist alive,
Lupe Fiasco is not exactly the next Hova when it comes to playing the CEO role. Not only is he involved in an extended delay/leak/delay battle with the entire internet, but he completely gutted his 1st & 15th label, firing nearly everyone associated with his fledgling start-up...except
Sarah Green, the amazing Chicago based singer/rocker/frequent collaborator RefinedHype nation will recognize as the voice behind "Real", "
He Say She Say", "Free Chilly" and "
Intruder Alert". Frankly, keeping Green is the smartest thing he's done in years.
Why all the praise for Green? Well, in addition to the aforementioned tracks, today I got a hold of one of her solo efforts (or quasi-solo, considering Lupe puts in a quest verse), the rocking "
Dirty Rose", and goddamn is it dope. Producer
Bryce Wilson crafts a classic rock meets boom-bap beat that Lupe fiascos over and Green overlays with some damn strong vocals. There's no doubting this woman's talent, though it remains to be seen if Lupe can put together a solid push for the woman's debut album (which currently has no title or release date). Come on Lupe, don't f**k this us too.
