Over the years I've gone from a big M.I.A. supporter to a pretty ardent hater of all things M.I.A., and since Santigold's long been considered M.I.A.'s protege, I haven't felt any particular urge to
give the woman's much spin in front of RefinedHype Nation. And as much as I really, really hate hipsters....goddamnit, this "Disparate Youth" is actually pretty dope.
A lot of the credit has to go to producer Ricky Blaze, who layers dubstep, machine gun fire guitar lines and more traditionally hip-hop percussion to seamless effect, but Santigold's purposefully understated vocals complete the vibe. Whatever the reason, I can't front - I'm feeling this.
Now all we need is someone to remix the fuck out of this. I know it doesn't make immediate sense, but for some reason I'm hearing ShHoolboy Q on this. His nihilistic flow on top of this beat? That shit would be pistachios. Who's on your "Disparate Youth (Remix)" wish list?
