On one level I feel bad for Ron Browz. He was a legitimately talented producer (check Nas' "Ether") who was having trouble getting work, so he jumped on the auto-tune club craze, found some quick success, and is now on the outside again after "D.O.A." Honestly, I feel a little bad for the man, but not bad enough to excuse the travesty that is his new video for "$20." See more
I hate to do this to you, but you really should watch first. This will be a little bit like when Christopher Hitchens volunteered to get waterboarded to see how bad it "really is." Every Navy Seals couldn't last more than a couple minutes through this ish:
The Refined Take:
1) Sadly the central concept of the video is over my head. Who needs $20? And why $20? Nearest I can figure out it's a fine Ron Browz is imposing on people who break his rules in the club. Far enough Ron, I'll give you $20 if you catch me handcuffin in the club, and you can give me $20 for the three minutes of my life I'll never get back. Deal?
2) You know things aren't going well for you when they only celebrity cameo you can get on your video is Lil Mama. What, Vanilla Ice was busy?
3) I hope Ron made some loot for "Arab Money" and "Pop Champagne" because it looks like the end of the road for the man if he keeps putting out work like this. And before I get ironic hate emails calling me a hater, read my column on double-reverse hating.
4) You think Ron got those dollar stacks from Soulja Boy's shoebox?
