To be honest, I don't know if Rocki Evans has been on hiatus or just flying under my radar, but I haven't heard much from the man since this post way back in 2010. And then he pops up on Thurz' latest single, followed the next day by his new solo single "Wams the Soul". In a word, goddamn.

While I've obviously got some serious rap nerd blood flowing through my veins, I was raised on classic soul. My dad kept a continuous loop of James Brown, Sam Cooke and Donny Hathaway running through the house, and so I can't help but feel when some new shit brings some of that classic soul. And those horns? That's next level shit.

Could Rocki always sing like this, or did I just never truly notice before? Either way, I just found my new Sunday chilling at the crib song.
