I'm sure most people probably feel the same way about Rihanna and Chris Brown being featured on the same songs together and I'm certain the phrases "what the f**k" and "you have got to be kidding me" reflect those feelings. It's great that Rihanna and Chris Brown are past their situation, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to work together. And on top of that the two have been pretty blunt with their "f**k you's" to anyone who disagrees with them. So now that that's out of the way I'm going to try my darndest to be objective about this and pretend that these two songs weren't released by two airhead pop stars.
Prior to hearing that Chris Brown would be on the full version of "Birthday Cake" I was actually looking forward to the lengthier version of the song but now that I've heard it I'm not impressed. First off, Chris Brown has the kind of voice that's probably better suited for singing about puppies so the fact that he's trying to be all raunchy on "Birthday Cake" is pretty laughable. Second, let's please leave the rapping to the rappers.
Although it's actually a remix of Brown's new single "Turn Up the Music", we're just going to go ahead and call the second song "YIKES" since it's plastered all over the Vimeo video. "YIKES" is definitely a lot more enjoyable than the "Birthday Cake" remix as long as you're big on present-day pop songs that sound like they were heavily influenced by early 90's house music. The song actually sounds somewhat similar to Rihanna's "We Found Love" as far as the production is concerned, and it really does sound a lot like your typical Chris Brown or Rihanna pop/dance track.
Nathan Update: For the record, I called this shit, and I'm personally boycotting any comments.
